Helen Manning

     As of 26 February 1955,her married name was Bowers. Helen Manning married Gene Bowers on 26 February 1955. She died on 28 May 2023 at Hagerstown, Washington, Maryland; Helen Louise Bowers, 85, of Hagerstown, MD, received her heavenly reward on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Born in Hagerstown, MD, on June 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Roger C. Manning and Esther E. Manning. She was the wife of George “Gene” Bowers for 65 years who preceded her in death on February 21, 2021. Helen was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, all of which she cherished. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Oberholzer (Ray) and Debra Frey (Joe); four grandsons, one granddaughter, six great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, one sister, Janet McCleaf, many nieces and nephews, and a neighbor whom she loved like a daughter, Bev Staley. Helen was a member of Paramount Brethren in Christ Church in Hagerstown. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty “Jeannie” Mathes and brother, Roy "Butch" Manning. Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11:00am at Paramount Brethren in Christ Church, 19106 Longmeadow Road in Hagerstown. Pastor Jacob Harrison will officiate. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown. A reception will follow at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Deacon’s Fund at the Paramount Brethren in Christ Church.
